Pressure Calculator
Force over area, or water pressure at depth.
The two formulas
P = F / A P = ρ × g × h
Pressure is force spread over area, which is why a 700 N person on two feet (0.02 m²) exerts 35 kPa but the same person on stiletto heels exerts megapascals and dents floors. Under water, pressure grows with depth alone: each meter of fresh water adds 9.8 kPa, roughly one atmosphere every 10 meters.
Gauge vs. absolute
The hydrostatic figure here is gauge pressure: the water's contribution on top of the atmosphere. A diver at 10 m feels about 2 atm absolute: 1 from the air column above the surface plus 1 from the water. Tire gauges likewise read the excess over atmospheric.
