BMI Calculator
Your body mass index, weight category, and the healthy weight range for your height.
How BMI is calculated
BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height² (m²)
The WHO ranges for adults: under 18.5 is underweight, 18.5 to 24.9 normal, 25 to 29.9 overweight, and 30+ obese (class I to III). The healthy weight range above is simply the weights that would put your height between BMI 18.5 and 25.
What BMI can and can't tell you
BMI is a population screening tool, not a diagnosis. It cannot distinguish muscle from fat (muscular athletes routinely read as 'overweight') and it says nothing about where fat sits, which matters for health risk. Waist circumference and body fat percentage add useful context. Also note BMI is not valid for children or during pregnancy.
