Decimal hours, not minutes
Payroll systems multiply an hourly rate by decimal hours, so 7 hours 30 minutes is 7.5, not 7.30. The conversion is minutes รท 60: 15 minutes is 0.25, 20 minutes is 0.33, 45 minutes is 0.75. Mixing the two up is the classic timesheet error, and it always shortchanges someone.
Break rules vary
Whether breaks are paid depends on jurisdiction and contract. In the US, short breaks (5 to 20 minutes) are generally paid working time under federal rules, while proper meal breaks of 30+ minutes are typically unpaid, which is what the break field here subtracts.
