Hexagon Calculator
Area, diagonals and apothem of a regular hexagon from one side.
The hexagon's special numbers
area = 3√3/2 · s² ≈ 2.598 s²
A regular hexagon is six equilateral triangles around a center, which is why the long diagonal is exactly twice the side and the circumradius equals the side itself.
Why nature picks hexagons
Among shapes that tile a plane with no gaps, the hexagon encloses the most area for the least perimeter. Bees discovered the optimal wax-to-honey ratio long before the honeycomb conjecture was finally proved in 1999.
